Administrators - Principal
Hello, My name is Elizabeth (Betty) Churchill and I am proud to be the principal of Vanier Community Catholic School. Our school is very special, as it permeates the message of Jesus through our daily teachings and learning. We work very hard to ensure a safe and caring environment, in which all our students have multiple opportunities to learn and grow to their full potential. I am a native Newfoundlander. I am the oldest of six children, so life for me was very family oriented, busy, and full of fun. I graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts Psychology/English, and a Bachelor of Education. I worked with the St. John’s Separate Board of Education for a year, and then made my move to Alberta in 1991. I taught for Northland School Division for a total of five years. In 1996 my family and I moved to Edson. I began working at Vanier Community Catholic School as a teacher and counselor, and I have not looked back. In the millennium year I was invited to be the Assistant Principal of Vanier and maintained my role for nine years. In August 2008 I completed my Masters of Science Education with a focus on Educational Leadership, and became the principal in August 2009. I love my job, and the opportunities I have to work with the staff, students, and parents at our school. My family and I consider Edson our home. We love the friends we have made, who are now our extended family. We enjoy all the amenities our town has to offer, especially hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, quadding, cross-country skiing, camping, and opportunities for sports and recreation, especially hockey. I love to read, eat dark chocolate, and share my husband’s wonderful cooking talents while we spend time with family and friends.
